East German Rose Garden in Forst (Lusatia) “... a little enchanted garden of nature”

This was the praise from Forst’s local daily newspaper, the ‘Forster Tageblatt’, when the horticultural show and rose exhibition opened back in 1913. This show and exhibition laid the foundations for the glorious park complex that can today be found beside the River Neisse and has been a tradition for more than 100 years: the East German Rose Garden Forst (Lusatia).

The 17-hectare park complex captivates visitors with its unique blend of garden art, landscape architecture and botanical diversity. Rose lovers, experts and enthusiasts are able to admire tens of thousands of roses in almost 1,000 varieties.

The park hosts countless cultural events, guided tours and seminars over the course of the year. The traditional Rose Garden Festival at the end of June is the annual highlight.
